Here are some of the most recent planning applications considered by Colchester Council.

  • A VACANT shop will be transformed into a gym.

Colchester Council granted permission for applicant, Steve Funnell, to convert the empty Unit 4 in Peartree Road, Stanway Retail Park, into a gym.

The business will be allowed to open on weekdays from 6am to 11pm and from 7am to 10pm on weekends an public holidays.

Stanway Parish Council raised no objections to the plans, which were approved on June 22.

  • PLANS have been submitted to cut down two silver birch trees near Jumbo water tower.

An application by Richard Gilbert has been made to Colchester Council, stating the trees inhibit car parking access behind 1 - 3 Head Street. 

The plans are yet to be discussed by the council.

  • OCCUPANTS living in a converted water tower have applied to create French windows leading from the lounge to the garden.

The owner of The Water Tower, in Tower Road, Wivenhoe, applied to Colchester Council for permission to install the French windows at the Grade II listed building on June 22.

In the application, JSP Town Planners and Design Consultants claim the plans "will not change the character" of the building.

  • ESSEX County Council has applied to build a temporary two-classroom extension at a primary school.

Stanway Primary School, in Villa Road, Stanway, could have the modular building on site for two years.

Plans were submitted to Colchester Council on June 22 and they have yet to be discussed by the council.

  • A COMMUNITY radio station has applied to put up a 20m radio transmitter mast on cricket club grounds.

Colne Radio Community Interest Company has applied to set up the mast, set in concrete, at Wivenhoe Town Cricket Club in Rectory Road, Wivenhoe.

In the application, chair of the company, David Purdey, wrote the mast had the "full support" of Wivenhoe Town Cricket Club. 

The company applied for permission from Colchester Council on June 20. 

  • A BUILDING company has applied for permission to create a new outdoor display area in its car park.

Wickes building supplies in Clarendon Way, Colchester, submitted an application to Colchester Council on June 16.

The new 'outdoor project centre' would be used to display bulky building materials and would be surrounded by a 4m high mesh fence.

It would mean 22 parking spaces would be lost at the store.

  • A HIGH school has applied to extend the hours it can open its sports hall.

The Gilberd School, in Brinkley Lane, Colchester, has applied to Colchester Council for permission to open its sports hall from 8am to 10.30am, seven days a week.

This would enable the school to hold events at weekends and use the hall for open evenings.

The plans have yet to be discussed by the council.
