FOOTBALL-CRAZY Beavers, Cubs and Scouts filled FC Clacton’s ground for the biggest Scouting event in the Tendring district.

Talented youngsters from across the area turned out for their troops as 20 teams faced off in the huge annual tournament.

More than 150 young players took part in the event, from six-year-old Beavers to teenage Scouts.

FC Clacton donated the use of its pitch for free to boost the event, helping organisers raise £250.

In the Cub competition, 3rd Thorpe triumphed over Frinton and Kirby in the final after a tense penalty shoot-out, while 1st Weeley Beavers won the lower age group.

The Scout competition was also decided by penalties with 1st Clacton troop coming out on top.

A team of Explorer Scouts also beat a motley group of leaders in an exhibition game.

Organiser Richard Moodey, assistant leader of 12th Clacton Scouts, said: “It was a really fantastic day. The weather was kind and the pitches were perfect.

“It’s an annual event and the children really look forward to it.

“I also had a lot of great comments from leaders and parents, and we want to thank FC Clacton who have made the event possible for the last three years by allowing us to use their pitch.

“We had great support, too, from Chris Tight, at Cannon 2006 Coaching, Eddie the Eagle, from Colchester United, and Sean Hillier, from Chelsea FC Foundation, who stepped in to referee all of the Beavers games.”
