COLCHESTER Council is set to make its largest ever investment in the town’s Roman walls.
Cabinet members are expected to agree to spend a sum of more than £300,000 on the famous walls at a meeting on Wednesday night.
The most the council has ever spent before was £274,410 in 2013/14.
The money will be spent on restoring parts of the wall including Balkerne Hill, Crouch Street, Priory Street, Vineyard Street, Middleborough, Claudius Court, Roman Road and Duncan’s Gate.
Paul Smith, Colchester Council leader, said money more than ever will be spent this year on maintaining Britain’s longest Roman wall.
He confirmed the sum would be more than £300,000 but would not be drawn on a final figure.
