A MAN suffered smoke inhalation after a chip pan blaze broke out.

The fire started in the kitchen of a home in Boxted Avenue, Clacton, at about 8.50pm on Monday.

Firefighters were called to the scene after the pan burst into flames while a resident was cooking and the kitchen filled with smoke.

The fire was out when they arrived but the flat was heavily smoke-logged.

Crews ventilated the property and gave the resident first aid, before leaving him in the care of paramedics.

The fire service spokesman said: “Incidents like this show how easily potentially devastating fires can break out in the kitchen.”

Safety advice includes not leaving cooking unattended, keeping tea towels away from the hob, taking care when wearing loose clothing, making sure the oven, hob and grill and kept clean and taking special care when cooking with hot oil, as well as not cooking while drunk.
