A TEENAGE actor has won a top award for his role in the stage adaptation of a classic novel.
Lee Birnie, 17, of Well Street, Brightlingsea, has been named the best young actor in the eastern region by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association for his turn as Peter in the Seaview Player's version of the Railway Children and picked up the prestigious Amy Potter trophy.
Colchester Sixth Form student Lee is hoping to break into the industry professionally after he has finished his studies.
He said: "I have been acting since 2011 and have had roles in 13 shows now.
"The passion for acting has always been there and I loved watching productions when I was away at holiday camps or when I went to London to see shows.
"Luckily there are lots of different groups where I live and I have had some great opportunities.
"I'm looking to go into acting as a career and I hope to get some experience in the industry before looking at university courses.
"It has been really good to win the awards, I'm so pleased."
