RIGHT royal celebrations will take place in Manningtree to mark the Queen’s birthday.

With the Queen celebrating her landmark 90th birthday last week, the Manningtree Business Chamber decided to enlist the help of the town’s Grand Theatre of Lemmings to organise the Queen’s Birthday Bash.

Running alongside the normal weekly market, the theatre has organised a range of classic British entertainment.

Mandy Rose, of the Grand Theatre of Lemmings, said: “It’s not just a day to mark the Queen’s birthday, it’s organised to make people feel happy with where they live and ensure they have a great time.

“We have lots of nice little touches and will be adding more in the build up to the day.

“We have done a number of small festivals in Manningtree throughout the years.

“We’ve done the beach bash, we did one a couple of years ago where we ‘took over’ the High Street for another bash.

“We also run the Harwich Children ’s Carnival every year, so we are always looking to do lots of community involving events.

“It’s the whole thing of trying to encourage people to come to this lovely town.”

People will be able to enjoy classic seaside fun with a Punch and Judy show and a big tea party, including cake decorated red, white and blue.

There will also be a special workshop where youngsters can fashion their own crown and face painting will be on offer.

Shops and businesses in the town will also join in the fun, with a “guess the age of the Queen game” set to feature .

Each shop will have a picture of the Queen at a pivotal point in her life on displa y and visitors must hazard a dangerous guess at her age.

The theatre has also organised its own Queen ’s Guardsmen, who will patrol the streets with a fun party twist.

They will sport their smart unifor ms atop a pair of stilts, and have traded their weapons for large feather dusters .

The party will run from 9am to 1pm on May 14 at the Manningtree Market, in Brook Street.
