You have to live your life as positively as you can.

That’s the message of Frinton author Peter Best, who has relaunched his latest novel The Burden of Proof, with a new cover and a little re-writing.

The suspense thriller also features scenes from Frinton and Walton, where Peter has been living for 12 years.

The book nook five years to write, including research and interviews, and was first published at the end of 2014.

But being “a perfectionist” thought it needed some “tweaking” helping The Burden of Proof earn five-star reviews on Amazon and other websites.

“The book is set in London and India. One of the main strands is set in Frinton. A guy goes missing while sailing from Walton. He fakes his death. He capsizes the boat and disappears to India,” Peter explained.

The character seeks happiness and meaning through adventure, which leads him into many scrapes. He also has a daughter living in Frinton and she is shocked to learn he is her father and knows her mother was married in Connaught Avenue.

“I live in Frinton, which is why it is in the book. Years ago I also used to sail from Walton Sailing club. It has a lot of history and the tides can make it a struggle to sail back to the club,” he said.

A sequel, also featuring Frinton, is in development and due out next year. Peter is also working on another book, this time set in Germany, where he previously lived with his second wife Bianca.

Peter gains inspiration from his life, which began 55 years ago, as the son of a shipyard worker growing up in a mining community until everyone was uprooted to Cramlington, just outside Newcastle.

He worked as an electrician, finding characters on the building sites that would feature in his later books. He met Bianca on his travels and for some years they lived in Germany before moving to Frinton, where they have a 15-year-old daughter.

Now, Peter is a carer for Bianca, a doctor, who previously worked in Walton, Frinton and Clacton. He wants readers of his “thought provoking book” to see the meaning behind it.

”I’m trying to get people to look at their lives. I want them to start living a life. I have heard a lot of stories where people have worked hard all their lives and they fall ill. The doctor says something like they have cancer and have six months to live. Then, they try and cram everything into that six months. Let’s not try and make it like this but instead live your whole life as positively as you can,” he added.
