A DETERMINED youngster who it was feared would never walk has completed his own marathon.

Lewis Prior has hypotonia and global development delay.

His muscles were so weak, he could not sit up until he was a year-and-a-half-old and only took his first steps last year.

But now Lewis, who is three, has completed a 2km walk around Great Notley Country Park to raise funds for the group which has helped to change his life.

His proud mother Katie Hyam said: "Lewis did amazingly well.

"He finished last at one hour 50 minutes but did it all himself.

"He wouldn't be carried any of the way.

"He walked the whole thing with his frame himself.

"He had to stop at times and his little legs could barely hold him up.

"He made us cry with his determination and courage.

"Two staff members stayed with us right to the end and encouraged him all the way, another example of how amazing and caring they are at Parc.

"He made us so so proud."

Lewis and another 14 youngsters completed the super heroes walk to raise money for Parc, a charity based in Braintree which provides play and recreation facilities for children with additional needs.

Katie, of Highwoods, Colchester, who is a nurse working at Colchester General Hospital, said the group was a lifeline for her family.

She said: "When we first went to Parc in June 2014, Lewis was dragging himself along the floor.

"He could not say anything and he was a frustrated child.

"I was at my wit's end with the whole situation.

"He has come along in leaps and bounds since he has been at Parc. They give us advice and ideas and you don't feel alone any more."

Lewis' epic walk has raised more than £600 for Parc with donations still coming.

Katie added: "People have been so generous and we are overwhelmed and the proudest parents in the world."
