NOW in its 22nd year, the Colchester Bach Choir and Orchestra are returning to St Botolph’s Church in Colchester for their annual Mayor’s Charities Concert.

Entitled Gloria, the groups, led by music director Patrick McCarthy, will be performing Bach’s Magnificat, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Handel’s Water Music, and as in previous years they will be donating their services for free.

Patrick says: “We will be delighted to help Mayor Theresa Higgins swell the funds of her chosen charities with our programme of glorious baroque favourites.

“The three selected works are among their composers’ most famous and popular. Bach’s Magnificat is both jubilant and brilliant, featuring trumpets, flutes and oboes as well as beautiful melodies for the soloists and choir.

“While Vivaldi’s Gloria is joyous and uplifting and also gives our concert its title.”

The Colchester Bach Orchestra will be adding to the musical treats by playing Handel’s much-loved Water Music.

It takes place on Saturday, February 20, at 7.30pm at St Botolph’s Church, Colchester.

Tickets are £12 and £5 for those in full-time education, available from Red Lion Books in Colchester High Street or by calling 01206 282206.
