WITHAM’s mayor is planning his most ambitious challenge yet to raise final funds for his chosen charities.

Bill Rose has taken part in charity walks and held a dinner and dance, but now he is looking to brave the roof of the O2 Arena.

To raise a final cash boost for Brainwave in Witham and Children with Cancer UK at Great Ormond Street, he will take a 90-minute walk over the top of one of London’s landmarks.

He said: “This is my biggest challenge so far, I have never done anything quite as ambitious.

“I’m up for a challenge and I’m feeling good about it, as long as it’s not too wet and windy.”

Last year he raised more than £3,000 to go towards the charities, through a dinner and dance and a walk from Braintree Town Hall to Witham Town Hall.

Before his time serving as mayor is up, he said he wanted to do something different to show support for the next generation.

He said: “The children at Brainwave suffer sensory challenges and it is humbling to see them at the charity training parents so they can carry on the sensory stimulation at home.

“As for Children with Cancer UK, the children have a very positive attitude which is encouraging. They don’t just sit around.

“There is lots going on to support people in my generation but I’m a great believer that children are the future.”

He is planning the walk across the O2 for April and sponsorship forms will be distributed around the town when a date has been confirmed.
