TRAVELLERS have pitched up on land in Warren Lane, Stanway.
About 12 vehicles have moved onto the private parcel of land since last Tuesday.
They could remain there until the landowner takes legal action.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "Police have been made aware of travellers moving onto land at Warren Lane, Stanway.
"An initial unauthorised encampment appeared on November 17 with further vehicles arriving on November 22.
"Officers have spoken to the travellers and have also liaised with local authorities and the Essex Countywide Traveller Unit.
"No criminal offences have been reported and police are continuing the monitor the situation."
A Colchester Council spokesperson added: “The encampment is on private land and is subject to the laws of trespass, which is a civil matter. It is therefore the responsibility of the landowner to take the appropriate action.”
