A sixth person has been arrested as the investigation into the murder of young dad Ladi Benson continues.

Ladimeji Benson, 27, is thought to have been stabbed following an altercation in Baddow Road on Tuesday, November 10.

The Westcliff shop owner, who grew up in Chelmsford and lived in Colchester, later died at Broomfield Hospital of his injuries.

A 25-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested yesterday, Monday November 23, on suspicion of affray.

He was also arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with an incident in The Chase, Great Baddow, in which a 22-year-old man was stabbed on November 10.

He has been bailed until December 3, pending further enquiries.

Two men aged 20, two men aged 22 and 25, and a 16-year-old boy who were arrested in connection with the murder investigation remain on police bail pending further enquiries.

The victim of the incident in The Chase suffered stab wounds to his head, arms and neck. He has since been discharged from hospital.

Baddow Road was closed between the Army and Navy roundabout and Beehive Lane for several hours on Friday while officers continued their investigation and hunt for the murder weapon.

A police spokesman said: "Officers carried out a thorough search but unfortunately did not find anything in connection with the murder investigation.

Police are continuing their enquiries and are asking residents in the areas of Baddow Road, Chelmsford town centre and the areas surrounding Moulsham Street to check their bins and gardens for knives or a bright yellow JD drawstring sports bag with the letters ‘JD’ written on it that have been discarded."

A 16-year-old Chelmsford boy who was arrested on suspicion of assault and affray has been released on bail until January 6, pending further enquiries.

A 20-year-old Chelmsford man, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released on conditional bail until March 10 pending further enquiries.

Two other men from Chelmsford, aged 22 and 25, and a 20-year-old man of no fixed abode who were arrested in connection with the ongoing police investigation remain on police bail pending further enquiries.
