A GRAPHICS and art student will create artwork for 50 songs in 50 weeks for her mum’s band.

Jessica Taylor, 17, who is in her second year at Colchester Sixth Form College, has been given the job of producing covers for the funk rock band.

Rhonda and The Great Unknown plan to release a track per week in the run up to lead singer Rhonda Merrick’s 50th birthday.

The Kent-based band will be releasing 50-second previews of the tracks online which will then be available to download them from iTunes.

The project is three weeks old.

Jessica, from West Mersea, said: “So far it has been a really great experience because I have never really done anything like this before.

“I try and base the art work on the lyrics of the songs, and they are usually really different so hopefully it will be alright.”

Jessica looks to have a promising future in the arts with advanced grades on the guitar, piano and flute and was named Essex’s Young Poet of the Year when she was in primary school.

She also delivered artwork for children’s television show The Brilliant Book which was shown on free-to-air network The Community Channel last year.

Jessica plans to continue her studies in graphics and art at Colchester Institute next year.
