MULTI-AWARD winning musical mastermind Beardyman is coming to Colchester.

Better known to his friends as Darren Foreman, he is best known for his vocal and beatboxing skills, which, among many accolades, earnt him the title of UK Beatbox Champion two years in a row.

Born in north London, Darren began mimicking voices at school.

“I just became fascinated with the science of it all,” he tells me. “Then when I discovered music it kind of went on from there.”

His latest project is his interactive show One Album Per Hour, which sees Beardyman gather song titles and genres from his audience and turn them into a uniquely stylised album produced live in front of their very eyes.

Launched at the Edinburgh Festival, One Album Per Hour was turned into a live web series on YouTube, where guest ‘producers’ included Jack Black, Tim Minchin and Daniel Sloss.

As well as becoming a regular face at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, he was also granted his own show at the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival, and stole the show at the BBC Comedy Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.

Darren says: “You never really know what you’re going to get each night but then that’s the fun of it all.

“I’ve done all kinds of gigs, festivals, raves, corporate events and even review shows and it’s different and fresh every time.”

As well as supporting the likes of Groove Armada and scoring a hit with Fat Boy Slim in 2013 with Eat Sleep Rave Repeat, he was asked by actor, writer and animator Mike Judge to lend several of his voices to several characters on the latest series of Beavis and Butthead.

• Tickets for the Beardyman concert on November 13 have sold out but a waiting list for returns is available by calling the box office on 01206 500900.
