Remember, remember the first week of November as the fireworks season goes off with a whizz bang. Here’s our guide to some of the best going on in our area.

NOVEMBER 5

• King Coel’s Kittens Fireworks Display, Colchester Castle Park Gates open 6pm. Guy paraded at 7pm. Fireworks at 7.30pm. Entry Adults £8.50, Children (4-15yrs) £4, Under 4s free but require a ticket. They are available from Mercury Theatre box office on 01206 573948 or on the night from the Firstsite Art Gallery. This will be King Coel’s 45th display, raising valuable funds to support people and groups with special needs living in the local community. Entertainment is being provided by Michael J Fitch and the Guy procession will be lead by the Colchester Town Watch with the Beefeaters parading Guy Fawks before he is placed onto the top of the bonfire.

• Great Clacton Church of England Junior School, Craigfield Avenue, Great Clacton. Gates open at 6.30pm. Entry is £5 for adults, £3 for children. For more information and tickets, call 01255 424906. There will be a barbecue, live music, and many more attractions with monies raised going to the PTA.

• Braintree Rugby Club, Beckers Green Gates open at 5.30pm. Funky Voices Community Choir at 7pm Bonfire lit at 7.45pm. Fireworks at 8pm. £6 for adults, £4 for children.

This event has the award winning and much travelled Funky Voices Community Choir singing from 7pm to 7.40pm. All proceeds from the event (not including the funfair) go to Braintree Rugby Club.

NOVEMBER 6

Old Heath Community Primary School, Old Heath Road, Colchester. Gates 6pm. Fireworks 7.30pm. Family (2 adults, 2 children) £15, adults £5, children £3. As with many school events there are no sparklers allowed although glow wands will be available. 01206 794334.

• Broomgrove School Fireworks, Broom Grove, Wivenhoe. Gates open at 6pm, fire performance 6.15pm, fireworks 7pm. Advance tickets adults £5, children over four £2, available from the school or High Street Newsagents. Entry on gate adults £6, children over four, £2.

Tiptree Fireworks Display at Thurstable School, Maypole Road, Tiptree. Gates open 6pm, bonfire 6.30pm, fireworks 7pm. Advance tickets Adults £7, Children £2.50, Family (2+3) £15, available from the school’s Parent Pay and Don Tyler Opticians. Entry on gate Adults £8, Children £3, Family (2 adults, 3 children) £20. Also on offer will be a barbecue, other refreshments, glo lights, candy floss machine and live music.

NOVEMBER 7

• West Bergholt Firework Display, Heathlands Primary School, New Church Road, West Bergholt. Gates open 5.30pm, bonfire 6.15pm, fireworks 7pm. Advance tickets £3.50, Under 3s free. Entry on gate £5. 01206 240288.

• Waldegraves Holiday Park, Waldegraves Lane, Mersea. Gates open 5pm. Main display 7.30pm. Free, although a donation is requested for car parking. As well as the fireworks, there will be live entertainment, children attractions including an inflatable area, and live music and food all night.

• Langham Parish Council display, Recreation Ground, School Road, Langham. Gates open 6pm. Torchlight procession and bonfire 6.45pm. Fireworks 7.30pm. Entry on the gate, adults £6, children £2.

• Earls Colne Primary School, Nursery Park Lane, Earls Colne. Gates open 5pm. Bonfire 5.30pm. Fireworks 6pm. Entry on the gate, adults £6, children £5, Family (2 adults, 3 children) £16, Under 4s free.

• Coggeshall Fireworks, St Peter's School, Myneer Park, Coggeshall. Gates open 5.45pm. Fireworks 6.45pm. Adults £6 (£7 on the gate), children £3 (£4 on the gate), family £15 (£18 on the gate). 01376 561328. There will also be a barbecue and hot drinks available.

• Rotary Club of Maldon Bonfire Night and Fireworks Display, Promenade Park, Maldon. Gates open 5.30pm, bonfire 7pm, fireworks 7.30pm. Advance tickets Adults (16+) £6, children (5+) £4, family (2 adults, 2 children) £18, under 5s free. Entry on the gate. Adults £7. Children £5. Music and entertainment will begin the evening’s activities, followed by the lighting of the bonfire before the fireworks kick off at 7.30pm. Music and light entertainment will begin at 6pm, followed by a talk by local historian Stephen Nunn, who will be discussing the role of Guy Fawkes, explaining what he was trying to achieve when he has caught red-handed in the Houses of Parliament during the Gunpowder Plot of 1605.

• Witham Round Table Charity Fireworks Display, Witham Rugby Club, Spa Road. Gates open 5pm. Bonfire 6.30pm. Fireworks 7pm. Advance tickets, adults £5, children/concessions £3 (under 5s free), family (2 adults, 2 children) £10, available from Witham Tourist Information Centre. Gate admission is £7 adults, £4 children, and £15 family. Refreshments, stalls and a funfair will also be on the site, with profits from the night going to local charities and worthy causes.

• Halstead Fireworks Display, Halstead Football Ground, Rosemary Lane, Halstead. Gates open from 5.30pm with the display at 6.30pm. A joint fundraiser by Richard de Clare school and Halstead Town FC, entry is £5 for adults and £3 for children aged four and over, which is payable on the gate.
