TWO teenagers have raised almost £1,000 in memory of a young child with a brain tumour.

Katie Murray and Zoe Maudsley, both 15, from St Helena School in Colchester, have money for Funding Neuro.

The charity is close to reaching a £900,000 target to help fund a clinical trial to treat Daisy Brooks.

The young fundraisers sold Daisy pin badges at Tesco, organised a cake sale and are organising a sponsored nine-mile pier to pier walk between Walton and Clacton.

Daisy Brooks, from Bures, was diagnosed with an extremely serious brain condition when she was four and a half years old.

Although there was no cure, Daisy was offered experimental brain surgery at Bristol Children’s Hospital.

She underwent surgery but died away weeks later.

Katie and Zoe met Daisy’s mother, Anna Brooks, who attended a presentation they delivered to pupils in St Helena School.

Sharon Kane, Funding Neuro’s chief executive, said: “This is a tremendous achievement by Katie and Zoe. They have been working so hard over the last six months.

“Their efforts will provide another vital injection of cash towards our goal.”
