BURGLARS stole two safes containing sentimental jewellery and children’s birthday money.

The raiders smashed open a patio door in a property off Glen Avenue in Colchester between 4.30pm and 11.50pm last Tuesday.

Investigating officer Det Con Claire Jennings said the jewellery had been handed down through family members and the family were desparate to get it back.

She said: “The jewellery had been passed down through generations and are of great sentimental value, so the owners are desperate for them to be returned.

"The safes were branded SecureLine and have round keypads.

"I am appealing for witnesses or anyone who saw people acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the burglary to come forward.

"It is also possible the safes may have been dumped, so I would ask anyone who is in the area close to Cymbeline Way to be on the lookout just in case.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Det Con Jennings at Colchester CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or crimestoppers-uk.org
