SKATEBOARDERS, BMX riders and residents are all being urged to have their say on a massive planned revamp to a popular skatepark.

Colchester Council has committed to improve the facility at Leisure World on Cowdray Avenue as the popular park has now been open for more than ten years.

The site is extremely popular amongst skate boarder and BMX riders and the council is encouraging them to attend a consultation event on Saturday  at Leisure World between 11am and 3pm where designs for the improvement work will be on display.

The companies who have put forward plans for the site are Wicksteed Playgrounds and Maverick Free Skate.

As well as commenting on the proposals, visitors will have a chance to meet and watch Colchester’s own professional mountain biker Sam Pilgrim who will be performing some of his own best flicks, tricks and stunts.

There will also be refreshments, music and competitions to keep people entertained.

Colchester Council’s leisure boss Annie Feltham encouraged everyone who uses the skatepark or lives nearby to help shape its future.

She said: “I’m really pleased to be investing in refurbishing this popular skate facility.

“It’s important to us to consult with skaters, bikers and local residents, and I would encourage people to get involved and help us to choose which design is carried forward.”

Those who cannot make the consultation can view the designs online at colchester.gov.uk/skatepark.

The images will also be available on the council’s Facebook page – Enjoy Colchester – and by searching for the skatepark consultation event. Voting closes on November 30.

The new facility is scheduled to be opened in spring next year.
