A POLICE officer from Colchester has marked 28 years with Essex Police.

PC David Underwood has been recognised for his long service to the force with an award.

The award is for officers who have completed at least 20 years service with the force and whose character and conduct is unblemished.

PC Underwood, who works on the Colchester Neighbourhood Policing team, said: “It is really something to feel appreciated and thanked for the work you do.

“It is nice to know that in some way, I am making a difference to my community.

“I feel a real sense of achievement in helping others and contributing in making Essex a safer place to live.”

PC Judith Currie, neighbourhood constable for Manningtree and Mistley, also picked up an award for her 21 years in the force.

She said: “I’m proud to accept this award. I enjoy policing my community, where everyone knows me as I live in the area.

“I have a good rapport with the parish councils and various community groups – and long may it continue.”

The duo were presented with the long service awards by Chief Superintendent Carl O’Malley.

Mr O’Malley said: “The long service award is a chance to recognise the loyalty and hard work of our officers and staff, and an opportunity to say thank you.

“Both these officers have shown real dedication and commitment to their local communities throughout their service”.
