A FUN day will is to be held in Colchester High Street next month to highlight Colchester’s rich heritage.

The High Street will be closed to traffic on Saturday, September 12 for the Heritage Fun Day, jointly organised by Colchester Council and the Colchester Town Centre Team.

Entertainment and activities will be organised in the High Street, Red Lion Walk, Culver Square, Sir Issac’s Walk and Eld Lane.

There will be storytelling, Punch and Judy displays and music and dance performances, as well as a large food area with seating.

Carl Milton, from Williams & Griffin’s department store, said: “Colchester town centre has such a wealth of history to celebrate and the fun day is a great way to bring it to life.

“There will be something for everyone and we anticipate the day will entertain Colchester residents and bring visitors from further afield.”

The High Street market will be running as normal, and there will also be historic stalls, talks and demonstrations on the Hollytrees Lawn, in Castle Park.

The free event will run from 9am until 5pm.
