A PUB has undergone a horticultural makeover after a visit by TV gardeners Lee and Dale Connelly.

The gardening duo from CBBC’s Blue Peter, known as the Skinny Jean Gardeners, visited the Three Wise Monkeys pub in Colchester High Street to help revamp is greenhouse with tropical flowers.

Dale Connelly said: “Lee and I are passionate about raising awareness of gardening in unusual places.

“You don’t need a big garden to be able to grow your own, and so the Three Wise Monkeys is now our flagship garden.”

Staff at Perrywoods Garden Centre, in Tiptree, were approached by the gardeners to help provide plants for the project.

The garden centre’s Hannah Powell said it had been delighted to help, adding: “We have known Lee and Dale for a while and really like what they do.

“We like partnerships like this and enjoy their contemporary planting.

“We are always looking for ways to get gardening in front of people who do not consider themselves gardeners and the Three Wise Monkeys is a great place to do that.

“It is showing them something which is quite simple, but really effective.”

They were also helped by the company, Veg Trug, which provided other products, such as packets for growing vertical crops, and a poppy planter.

Paul Owen, a director with the company, which encourages people to grow their own veg, said: “We thought these two guys were going to go places and signed them up for a three year contract to promote Veg Trug.

“I think they did a great job at the pub, they are very cutting- edge and fresh.”
