A KIOSK owner has been hailed a hero after helping to resuscitate a young boy drowning off the coast of Clacton.

The four-year-old and his grandmother were visiting the seafront close to Trafalgar Road, when he got into difficulty while paddling.

He was swallowing water and struggling to breath before Martyn Western raced into the sea to save him, with the help of a visitor from Colchester, known only as Ray.

The youngster is currently in Cambridge’s Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where he was brought out of an induced coma yesterday afternoon.

Mr Western, 61, who has run a kiosk on the seafront for seven years, went to the aid of the youngster and his two cousins after they got into trouble in the water at about 10am on Monday.

Clacton RNLI, Clacton Coastguard, Essex Police and the East of England Ambulance Service were also called to the aid of the boy.
