PLANTS are to be used to help reduce pollution in Colchester.
A green screen will be fitted with vegetation and plants along Southway westbound at a cost of £20,000 after funding was given to the local highways panel.
The plants are designed to suck up particles of diesel and petrol fumes from vehicle exhausts and clean the air.
A further £25,000 will be spent improving cycle routes around Brinkley Grove Road and Mill Road.
A cycleway will be installed along Rowhedge Road by widening the footpath at a cost of £4,000.
A further £5,000 is being spent looking at the possibility of a crossing along Berechurch Hall Road between Hooper Avenue and William Harris Way.
