COMMUTERS have been criticised for leaving their vehicles parked dangerously on a main village road.

Residents claim the issue on London Road, in Marks Tey, has got worse since the beginning of the year.

Rail users wanting to park at the station’s NCP-operated car park face a bill of £6.50 a day. Plans are in the pipeline to axe free parking on Station Road.

Motorists will be charged £2 for parking up to four hours and £4 for 11 hours.

The North Essex Parking Partnership has now been urged to place restrictions on London Road.

Residents are asking for a one hour restriction in the middle of the day in a bid to stop the commuter parking.

Patrick Mead, who lives in nearby Windmill Court, said: “They park both sides of the road. It is hard for buses to get through.

“There are actual collisions caused by this parking. We had never had any problems before.”

Allan Walker, Marks Tey Parish Council chairman, said the council was doing what it could to tackle the parking issues.

He said: “Marks Tey is riddled with parking problems at the moment.

“There are serious problems down Church Lane.

“We have been fighting for years to get parking restrictions for Old London Road and Highways England have resurfaced it and put in parking restrictions late last year.

“But the commuter parking just moved to other parts of the village.”

A NEPP spokesman said: “The NEPP considers the potential benefits and impacts of many parking or waiting restriction requests from across north Essex, and is considering a new request for this area.

“Previous applications for the area have been refused due to not comprehensively covering all places that the parking might be moved to.

“No firm plans have yet been made.”
