Residents forced to park on a dangerous road thought they had found the solution after asking council bosses to turn 15 metres of land into a small parking area.
But their hopes were dashed when they were told converting the land outside their homes could cost as much as £500,000.
Villagers in Witham Road, Black Notley, contacted Braintree Council because they were parking their cars in cramped side streets or on the busy main road, which they fear is dangerous and could cause accidents.
