Calls have been made for developers to build a new GP surgery in a 370-home estate in Witham after suggesting a pharmacy instead.

Developer Bellway Homes in partnership with Swan Hill Homes will shortly submit a planning application for the houses as well as a shop, a pharmacy, open space and allotments on land off Forest Road, which links Witham and Rivenhall.

Part of the land, owned by farmer Simon Brice, is used by Rivenhall Oaks Golf Centre.

Oliver Spencer, representing Bellway Homes, explained to Witham Town Council at a planning meeting that construction is likely to begin in March 2016, despite building on the site originally restricted for between 2021 and 2026.
