STAFF at UK Power Networks have raised more than £6,000 for Colchester’s recovery centre for wounded, injured and sick soldiers.

More than 100 competitors took to the greens and lake at Stoke by Nayland Golf Club for a golf and fishing day, for the Help for Heroes Chavasse VC House recovery centre.

It was the fifth consecutive charity event hosted by the company and the third raising money for Help for Heroes.

Stuart Varney, area manager, said: “While we’re still counting the money from Friday’s event, what we have raised will bring the total over the last three years for Help for Heroes to £25,000.”

UK Power Networks is already organising next year’s fundraiser, which will be held at the same venue on July 8 2016, this time fundraising for breast and prostate cancer charity Men United.

  • A golf day raised thousands of pounds for a charity set up in memory of a soldier.

David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties raised £17,000 at its annual golf tournament held at Stoke by Nayland in Suffolk.

This year the event was staged in support of the Aaron Lewis Foundation, a charity established in memory of Lieutenant Aaron Lewis, 26, of 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2008.
