GOLFERS spent 14-and-a-half hours playing to raise hundreds of pounds for charity.

Playgolf Colchester senior members Don Miller, Alan Cole, Geoff Backhouse and Terry Skornia took part in the Macmillan Longest Day golf challenge on Monday, taking on four rounds in one day.

So far, they have raised £600, with donations still coming in.

Mr Miller said: “Quick breaks between rounds to change trolley batteries and replenish food supplies meant we managed to finish in time for a well-earned beer before the centre closed.

“There were four rainy squalls but, while we were soaked, it did not dampen our enthusiasm for the task.”

The team, called Four Shades of Grey, lost 24 balls and one tee. They did not use a buggy.
