A RIDING school could close after Colchester Garrison revealed plans to end its involvement.

Colchester Garrison Saddle Club, in Fordham, is holding a meeting with Colonel Gary Wilkinson, Garrison Commander, tomorrow to discuss the site’s future.

Staff are encouraging riders to attend.

Colchester Garrison does not offer any direct financial support to the club, but does contribute members of staff.

If the garrison pulls out, the riding school will have to pay for employees.

Col Wilkinson said: “Colchester Garrison Saddle Club is run with the support of military personnel, which is being reviewed to ensure the club is being operated in accordance with all relevant policies.”

The saddle club moved to its premises in Fordham in the late 2000s.

It had been housed in the old Cavalry Barracks, off Abbey Field, Colchester, for decades.

Colchester Garrison Saddle Club declined to comment yesterday.

The meeting will take place at the club, in Rams Farm Road, Fordham, at 9am.
