A MUM is organising a charity gig to raise cash in memory of her daughter’s dad.

Abbey Campbell, from Great Horksley, wanted to do something for her daughter Georgie, eight, after her father Joe Emmons died in November, aged 41.

She is putting on a night of live music at the Three Wise Monkeys, in Colchester High Street tonight (Saturday).

Abbey, 40, said: “It’s the first time I’ve ever done anything like this.

“I’ve had a lot of support from the music industry.

“I just want to raise a little bit of money for Georgie and a little bit of money for Mind.”

Mr Emmons took his own life.

Four bands will take to the stage, including one group which has travelled all the way from Newcastle to perform.

Ms Campbell originally organised the event to raise enough money for her daughter to go to Legoland.

But since then it has grown, and she will donate any extra money to Colchester Mind, which helps people with mental health problems.

A number of artists, including Paul Weller and the Cords, have also donated artwork and signed merchandise for a raffle.

Tickets for the gig, which starts at 8pm, cost £5 and are available on the door.
