YOUNGSTERS sprung into action to help children in need.

The Chestnut class at Market Field School, in Colchester, learnt about parts of the world which did not have clean water and decided to take matters into their own hands to help.

The youngsters held a car wash, a cake bake and sale to raise funds for Water Aid – the charity which works to provide safe water in 37 countries worldwide.

Gary Smith, headteacher of the school which cares for youngsters with learning difficulties, said: “The children are truly fantastic.

“These are only 13 children in the class and as part of a topic they learnt about how some countries don’t have clean water.

“They decided to try to help children who are not as lucky as themselves.

“They raised £505.79. For that class to do that on their own, is outstanding.”
