DEVELOPERS have applied for permission to create a leisure quarter, including six restaurants, in Stanway.

Churchmanor Estates has been consulting on the plans for several months, but has finally submitted the application for Stane Park.

The application reveals that two of the restaurants will have drive-through. Earlier this year the Gazette revealed Nando’s, Bella Italia and pub company McMullens have already signed up.

Stephen Clark, managing director of Churchmanor Estates, was unable to say which other three restaurants are moving in but said legal discussions are still taking place.

He said: “What we’re trying to create is a proper leisure quarter. It is a family leisure destination.

“We have been delighted by the positive response from people in the local area and the feedback has helped us with the final details of the planning application.”

The plan includes a new access road from the Sainsbury’s roundabout and a new bus link. The developers have also given the council a piece of land near the London Road roundabout, which is often heavily congested, so they can widen the road.

Mr Clark hopes Colchester’s planning committee will discuss the application by August.

A children’s play area is also planned for the site.
