SHOPPERS in Waitrose donated more than 700 kilos of food to Colchester Foodbank.
Volunteers spent Saturday in the supermarket collecting donations.
They had a whiteboard with things the foodbank was short of, including sugar and long-lasting milk.
Corinne Thompson, Foodbank manager, said: “People were telling us what a good job we are doing. It was heart- warming. We were overwhelmingly welcomed and embraced. It was just amazing.” The 20 volunteers also collected about £75 in donations.
