TEAMS of disabled children from three Colchester schools swept the board at the first East of England Primary Panathlon – a mini Paralympics for children.

Youngsters from Doucecroft, Lexden Springs and Market Field schools were among 40 children to compete in the event, which was held at the College at Braintree.

Doucecroft School took the winning title, followed closely by Market Fields and Lexden Springs, ahead of schools across Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

Andrea Griffiths, sports coordinator at Doucecroft School, said: “I’m really proud of them.

They’ve all worked really hard.

“Every one of the kids has really enjoyed it and they really behaved well.

“They are proud of themselves and each other. It’s been brilliant.”

Austen Rivers, ten, added: “It feels great. I loved all of it. It’s hard to choose my favourite bit, but I really liked the volleybat and the parachute popcorn.

“We’ve got a big trophy now and we can put it in our trophy compartment.”
