CHILDREN danced and skipped the day away at a traditional May fair.

Pupils at Montgomery Infants School and Nursery, in Colchester, took part in the event which saw them enjoy country and maypole dancing.

Emily Meakin, six, was the May queen, and Blake Wallace, also six, was the May king.

The pair led the parade around the playground before the fun, which included stalls and fairground games, began.

Headteacher Sally Leung said: “Traditional dancing is all part of our British values and it is important children understand our culture and history.

“We had a wonderful afternoon and the parents were, as always, so supportive.

They clapped and cheered, it was fantastic.”

The stalls raised money for the school, collecting a whopping £550 in 45 minutes.
