WHO wouldn’t want to visit Mumbai, Singapore and Fiji? Graham Luckhurst has done it all...without leaving his gym.

The Marks Tey pensioner has finally completed a gruelling round the world rowing trip in six years and four months after he was set the challenge by gymmembers.

Almost every day he has arrived at the Marks Tey Hotel at 6.30am to row another 13.9 miles.

He has finally completed the challenge and already has his eye on another one.

Graham, 68, said: “It was a long way. I thought it was a bit far at first but then I decided to try it.

“I marked out a route, starting and finishing at Southampton and taking in places like Lisbon, Mumbai, Singapore, Fiji and Darwin.

“I did get a few people joking and asking why I wasn’t doing it for real.

“One person told me to be mindful of the pirates when I was crossing Somalia.”

Graham was asked to take up the challenge at the gym Christmas party after he had rowed across the Atlantic twice on his machine.

But it wasn’t all plain sailing.

He said: “I was diagnosed with prostate cancer last October, which has been hard.

“I’m undergoing treatment at the moment and have noticed I have slowed down slightly since then.

“But it hasn’t stopped me taking on another challenge of rowing round Britain. I already have my map marked out.

“My wife does get a little bit annoyed because I’m down at the gym for so long but it’s all worthwhile.”

Despite his rowing marathon, Graham hasn’t stopped himself from taking a day off every now and again for a break.

He said: “We go on holiday and I do try to find a rowing machine to carry on.

“But you can’t always do it and Christmas Days are a no no.”
