A SALE Moor health visitor has won a national award for her dedication to training and commitment to her profession.

Karen Heggs, 38, a member of the Sale Moor health visiting team of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, was awarded the Student of the Year award at the Community Practitioner and Health Visitor Association (CPHVA) Awards ceremony at the Oxo Tower Wharf, London, on March 27.

The awards aim to recognise the work of community practitioners and health visitors.

Karen qualified a health visitor in January this year following training at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust.

She was commended for developing her leadership skills and for the way she supported the families she works with.

Karen said: “I was delighted and honoured to be nominated and shortlisted for this award.

"It comes at the end of what was a challenging but very rewarding year. I am proud to work as a health visitor and look forward to my new role in Trafford.

"I want to thank the teams I worked with in Salford during my training and my Practice Teachers - Zoe Ralph and Cathy Phillips. I would also like to thank the excellent team at University of Bolton for their guidance and support.”

Health visiting services are jointly provided by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust and Trafford Council as part of Trafford Children and Young People’s Service (CYPS).
