A SENIOR traffic officer hopes the family of a woman killed on the roads can take some comfort from the sentence given to the man responsible for her death.

Nigel Kelsall, 40, of Harwich Road, Colchester, was driving a silver BMW convertible when it left the road in Vinesse Road, Little Horkesley, and crashed into a tree stump on Tuesday, May 20, last year.

His passenger, mother-of-two Stacy Clague died of severe head injuries sustained in the accident. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Investigating officer Scott Egerton, said: “Every driver must drive at the right speed for the road ahead. Mr Kelsall was driving within the speed limit, but too fast for the bend and this error had tragic consequences.

“The judge also made clear he should have ensured his passenger was wearing a seat belt. I’m pleased he accepted his responsibility and pleaded guilty.

“Stacy`s mum, dad, daughter and son have been devastated by her loss and I hope this sentence will give them some comfort."

Kelsall was also banned from driving for two years.

Ms Clague, 34, from Bures, lost consciousness at the scene and was put on life support in hospital to allow doctors to take her organs.
