A MOTORIST caught drink driving for a third time has still been offered a drink driving rehabilitation scheme which could see him back on the road in less than two-and-a-half years.
Steven Antoniou, 48, of Clacton Road, Thorrington, did not learn from his drink driving disqualification in 2002 or his three year ban in 2006 and drove drunk again.
Wayne Ablett, prosecuting, told Colchester Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Antoniou had five pints and “possibly a shot” in Tom Peppers in Clacton, on March 28, before crashing his white Ford Transit van into a tree on Tower Road.
Mr Ablett said: “After crashing he left his car there and walked home.”
Antoniou admitted driving while over the limit and leaving the scene of an accident.
He was disqualified from driving for the minimum of three years but has been offered another 36 weeks off the sentence if he goes on the drink driving rehabilitation scheme.
He was also fined £500, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £50 victim surcharge.
