HUNDREDS of mourners paid their respects to a talented young golfer who died in a car crash.

Will Turner, 18, died after the car he was travelling in with friends overturned and landed in a ditch off the A134 in Assington, Suffolk.

Will was a student at the Lee Westwood Golf School, which is part of Stoke-by-Nayland Hotel, Golf and Spa.

The school described him as “an outstanding representative”

and an “impressive role model for all his peers”.

Yesterday, mourners paid their respects at Southend Crematorium, near where the teenager went to school.

There were so many mourners, many had to stand outside and listen as the service way relayed to them on speakers.

In a statement, Will’s parents Martin, Julie and brother James Turner said: “We are struggling to come to terms with what has happened.

“Will’s death has left the most enormous void in all our lives and we miss him every minute of every day.

“He was such a kind, caring and outgoing person.

“He made friends wherever he went, especially through his love of golf.

“We chose the Golf Foundation charity for donations, because we know he would want other young people to have the chance to play too.

“There has been such an outpouring of love for Will and support for our family since the accident and we would like to say thank you to everyone for their incredible kindness.”

Will had been head boy at Thorpe Hall School, in Great Wakering, near Southend, where his mother is also a governor, before moving on to the golf school.

A statement from the golf school said: “Will was known as a wonderful young man who was extremely well liked by his schoolmates.

“He was a considerate, bright young man that loved being a part of the school programme.

“He was an outstanding representative of the Lee Westwood Golf School and an impressive role model for all his peers.”

Will played with a handicap of one and had been due to go on to Birmingham University for a degree court in associated golf management studies.
