ELDERLY patients at Colchester General Hospital were given sweet Easter treats, thanks to the generosity of staff at a builders’ merchants.

More than 50 Easter eggs donated by staff at Kent Blaxill, based in Colchester, were presented to the care of the elderly wards.

Colchester branch manager Andy McMahon said: “We wanted to do something for hospital patients this Easter.

“We thought youngsters on the children’s unit would be well supported, so decided to invite staff to buy eggs for older patients.

“We know they enjoy chocolate as much as their grandchildren – sometimes more so!”

Mr McMahon and Monica Hartley, PA to the directors of Kent Blaxill, visited the hospital to present the eggs, which were donated by staff at the Colchester branch and the company’s head office, both in Layer Road. Donna Traynor, matron for the four care of the elderly wards at Colchester General Hospital, thanked the staff of Kent Blaxill for their support.

She said: “There’s a huge amount of goodwill in the community for Colchester General Hospital and its patients.

“However, it’s true elderly patients can sometimes be overlooked, so I know they will appreciate Kent Blaxill’s visit as much as the staff.”
