SWINDON Wildcats ace Aaron Nell has taken little reward from being selected in the English Premier League all-star first team after a disappointing end to the season.

Following an impressive campaign for the Swindon Wildcats, the 25-year-old forward, who netted 33 times in 37 appearances, was picked alongside five players from regular season champions Telford in the all-star first-team.

“I didn’t think about it to be honest. I know it comes out every year and they all thought the Telford players were really good,” said Nell.

“It is always nice to be picked in something like that but I don’t take much from it.”

Swindon’s season came to a sudden end in Peterborough after Nell and co were unable to haul back a one-goal deficit from the first leg of a play-off quarter-final.

Nell, who also earned a call-up to the Great Britain Senior Prospects squad last weekend, admitted the defeat left a bitter taste but is already looking forward to next season under new head coach Stevie Lyle, who was named in the all-star second team.

“We started off poorly and we just couldn’t get back,” he added.

“The boys did well to get back in the first leg but Peterborough played well over the whole weekend and deserved to go through.

“We have to put it behind us now, have a good summer, and go for next year.

“We’re getting better and it has been a good season.

“We had that great run before and after Christmas and if we had got to Coventry, then it would have been a really good season and that is a little bit disappointing.

“It has been a tough league. There have been no easy games and we have done well to finish fifth on goal difference.

“If someone had told us at the end of October that we would finish just a few points off third, we would have taken that in a heartbeat.

“I know Stevie (Lyle) has got some good plans for next season and he wants us to be even better.

“He knows what he wants and I think he will go out and get it.”

Nell is now preparing for the holding of the first Swindon Wildcats Charity Golf Day at Broome Manor on Friday, April 24.
