CHARITIES that support carers in the area are working in partnership to deliver a series of drop-in sessions.

Ryedale Carers Support, Scarborough Support for Carers and Caring Together Whitby will be running their first spring roadshow from April 13 to 24.

The partnership’s volunteer champion, Sarah Lally-Marley will be stopping at local libraries and community venues across the three districts as well as joining the super mobile library to reach the more rural areas.

She said: “The aim of the roadshow is to raise awareness of the free services that we provide to those who care for a partner or family member and talk to potential volunteers who could help us to ensure that we continue to grow our valued sitting services and support groups.”

Sarah added that the charities were looking for volunteers of all ages and varied experiences to sit with older people to enable their partner or family carer to have a little time for themselves. Volunteers would not undertake any lifting or provide any medical or personal care and travel expenses are met by the charities.

“We are simply looking for caring, reliable people who can provide friendly and supportive company and we are hoping that our spring roadshow will provide an opportunity for us to get out there and talk to people, both carers and potential volunteers who would like to know more about us and the work that we do,” she said.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the services the charities provide and the volunteering opportunities available is being asked to go along to one of the stops on their roadshow.
