A CAFE selling organic health food is to open in Kelvingrove Park in a building that has lain empty for 25 years.

An Clachan Cafe in the grade C' listed Queens Rooms building, below, will provide indoor seating for up to 30 people with a further 30 seats available outside in good weather. It will operate seven days a week from 8am to 5pm in winter and until 9pm in the summer.

It is hoped the cafe at the south east corner of the park at the junction between Clifton Road and La Belle Place, will be open to the public within a few months.

No burgers or chips will be served, but a takeaway service will be provided using bio-degradable packaging and wrappers.

The name An Clachan refers to a Highland village property of the same name which was displayed in Kelvingrove Park during the great exhibitions of 1888 and 1901.

Glasgow City Council land services director Robert Booth said: "The cafe will cater for families with young children and will promote the park, its wildlife, plants and facilities by organised activities for young children."
