PUPILS swapped uniforms for suits and learned important life lessons during a series of special workshops.

Volunteers from the world of work inspired Year 10 pupils at the Stanway School by giving them guidance on writing successful CVs, application letters and helped them fine tune their interview skills.

It was followed by an opportunity for the pupils to interview the professionals who represented the NHS, fire service, police, Colchester United, financial directors, and solicitors.

Other year groups spent the day learning about drugs awareness, emotional wellbeing, sex education, coping with bereavement, fire safety and money management.

Paula Deighton, the school’s personal, social and health co-ordinator, said: “It has gone really well. The response from the facilitators from all sectors has been really positive.

“The business mentors, for example, were so impressed with the professional attitude of the pupils and also the way they conducted themselves.”
