A DATE has been set for the reopening of a busy village route.
Residents and traders who use Spring Lane, Colchester, have endured repeated delays as work is undertaken on the bridge.
Work started more than a year ago and the replacement was due to be installed and open by August, but the project has been beset with problems including flooding, a fallen tree and poor ground conditions.
Drivers have had to find alternative routes taking them miles out of their way.
Now, Essex County Council has said the bridge will be opened on March 20.
The work is part of a £30 million investment in Colchester’s roads and transport system.
Essex county councillor responsible for transport Rodney Bass said: “I accept this has caused disruption to residents and businesses in Colchester for which we sincerely apologise.
