A CHARITY has become a victim of its own success after being overwhelmed with books.

Kindhearted donors contribute clothes, furniture, homeware, toys and books to Colchester Children’s Charity.

All the goods are gratefully received and are sold to raise thousands of pounds to help children in need in the Colchester area.

But Roy Kemp, a trustee and treasurer of the charity, said it has been inundated with books and is struggling to handle them all.

The charity is now looking for a group or charity whch can make good use of them. Mr Kemp said: “We are always grateful for donations and never turn anything away.

“We are being inundated with books, about 100 a day. We regularly change the selection on our bookshelves, but we just have too many.

“We want to make the best of them and if any groups or charities think they can make use of them, we are asking them to get in touch.’’ The charity has three shops – in Mersea Road and Old Heath Road – which are staffed by volunteers.

Anyone who would like some books is asked to contact the Mersea Road shop on 01206 500106.
