NOMINATIONS have begun to come in for Colchester’s unsung heroes.

Your Gazette has teamed up with Abellio Greater Anglia to recognise the hard work of our community heroes.

Once a month, we will honour one person by presenting them with a plaque and £100 as a thank-you.

So far, the Gazette has received lots of entries highlighting the work done by people across the town.

James Wills, editor of the Gazette, said: “It has been really encouraging to see so many people being nominated.

We know Colchester has a real community spirit and this just goes to show how many people out there are doing such good work and not looking for anything in return.”

Each month the Gazette will be inviting nominations and choosing a winner from among them.

They could be someone who gives up their time to work with youth groups or who looks after their neighbours by dropping in every day to make sure they are OK.

Mr Wills said: “We know there are so many people who are giving up their time for nothing and going the extra mile.

“We feel these people should be given the recognition they deserve.

“We are delighted to have teamed up with Abellio Greater Anglia on this project.

“The company has a long tradition of getting involved in the communities it serves and its sponsorship is a real example of this.”

To nominate your candidate, send an email to gazette.newsdesk @nqe.com, saying who the person is, giving details of why they deserve to win and including a picture.

Remember to include yours and their telephone numbers, so we can contact you.
