A MAN has been charged with driving while drunk after an accident in the early hours of Christmas Day.
Sam Dowsett, 22, of Wethersfield Road, in Colchester, is also charged with driving without insurance.
He has been released on bail, to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court next month.
The incident - in Berechurch Hall Road - took place at about 4am when a silver Vauxhall Corsa overturned.
A female passenger, a 20-year-old from Tiptree, suffered serious injuries and had to be cut free by firefighters.
She was taken first to Colchester General Hospital and then Queen’s Hospital, in Romford, for specialist treatment.
Dowsett was initially bailed until December 30, but had his bail extended until Thursday, February 18 and subsequently to Friday, February 20.
