A GROUP of music lovers took over Radio 1 for 30 minutes after impressing listeners with their dream playlist.

Chris Morley, 28, his girlfriend, Ami Webb, her brother Sam Webb and friend Chris Parkin were selected to feature in the show’s Feet Up Friday feature.

The team, all from Tiptree, put their tunes head-to-head with another group from Croydon and got the most public votes.

Their playlist was then used in a 30-minute slot on Greg James’s drive-time show.

Chris, an events manager, said: “It was an awesome experience.

It was a bit surreal being in the Radio 1 studio.

“Wemet the team we were up against and had a bit of banter.

“Greg was unbelievably down to Earth. It was really refreshing.

“I was trying to work out how I could promote my band EllisRed. He was really helping me and gave me a few pointers.”

Chris also managed to put his band’s promo CD on in the studio while they were playing other songs to the public.

He said: “I tried to leave a few CDs about for some of the other DJs.”

The team only found out their application was successful on Thursday afternoon, and had just two hours to put together their playlist.

They opted for a varied list, which they believed more people would vote for, including Blink 182, Foo Fighters and Kayne West.

In between their song choices, the group presented the show and read out messages people had sent them on social media sites.

They also did “shout outs”

for their family and friends, including a special mention for the Robin Cancer Trust, which Chris supports.

He said: “I work with Toby Freeman, the charity’s chief executive. He’s a good mate.

“It’s an awesome charity. I was trying to promote it more, but they said I couldn’t.”

Chris Parkin is a retained firefighter and co-owner of a logistics company, while Ami is a mortgage advisor and Sam is training to be an accountant.
